AICTE revises eligibility norms for lateral entry admission to BTech courses
As per the revised criteria, candidates having diploma or degree courses in vocational subjects will be eligible for lateral entry admission to BTech courses.
The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has revised the eligibility criteria required for lateral entry admission to BTech courses. As per the circular released by the AICTE, Diploma in Vocational Course (DVoc) and Bachelor Degree in Vocation Course (BVoc) will be treated at par with the Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Diploma in Engineering courses for admission to BTech courses through lateral entry mode.
In addition to revising the eligibility criteria, AICTE has also lowered the requirement of minimum marks for admission to all such courses. AICTE has also informed that all the Universities/Institutes admitting DVoc/BVoc students will offer suitable bridge courses such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering drawing, etc., for the students coming from diverse backgrounds to achieve desired learning! outcomes of the programme). The revised eligibility norms are:
⇒ Passed Minimum 3-years/2 years (Lateral Entry) Diploma examination with at least 45 per cent marks (40 per cent marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category SC/ST) in any branch of Engineering and Technology.

⇒ Passed B.Sc. Degree from a recognized University as defined by UGC, with at least 45 per cent marks (40 per cent marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category SC/ST) and passed 10+2 examination with Mathematics as a subject.

⇒ Passed D.Voc. Stream in the same or allied sector.
What is Lateral Entry Admission to BTech Courses
Lateral entry admission is the process of getting admission direct to the second year to BTech course. Several engineering institutes, but not all, has the provision of lateral entry admission. Many institutes offer admission to the second-year courses on the basis of marks in the qualifying exam while some institutes also conduct entrance exams for lateral entry. Candidates need to appear in the entrance exams in addition to fulfilling the eligibility criteria required for admission.
