Students said they are doing internships with companies in various parts of the country and it is impossible for them to appear for NPTEL examination.

As per a report published in The Free Press Journal, nearly 250 final BTech students of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) Bhopal started a protest on the campus in Bhopal to demand their internship be considered sufficient and that they should not be forced to clear NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) course examination to obtain a degree.

The protesting students said they were doing internships with companies in various parts of the country and it was impossible for them to appear for NPTEL examination. A student requesting anonymity said they were offered internships in placement camps organised by MANIT. “We are working for nine hours a day and the administration of the institute wants us to appear for six NPTEL course papers. This is impractical and unjust,” he said.

They said they are currently working from home and can be asked to join offices in various parts of the country for work anytime as the Covid situation is easing. “How will we travel to Bhopal to appear for exams?” the students asked.
