Bihar government has announced that it will pay full fees of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students studying in top Central and State institutions. The announcement was made by SC and ST Welfare Department Minister Lakhendra Kumar Roshan during press conference at Samvad in Soochna Bhawan. He said the decision was part of cabinet agenda approved in presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Under Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, the scholarship amount has been increased for students studying in premier institutions such as IITs, NITs, AIIMS, NIFT, and Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP). The government will now pay entire fee for SC and ST students in both Central and State institutions, with no limit on the fee amount.

Earlier, the government provided INR 70,000 to INR 90,000 per year for SC and ST students studying in higher education institutions. The state government has also increased the scholarship amount for students studying in non-government institutions like ITIs, Diploma/Polytechnic courses, and other professional courses.

With revised fees, ITI students will now receive up to INR 7,500 per year instead of INR 5,000. Students pursuing ITI, Diploma, Polytechnic and similar courses will get INR 15,000 per year up from INR 10,000. Students in other professional courses will receive INR 25,000 per year instead of INR 15,000. This amount covers tuition fees and all other related fees.
