BITS Pilani Receives USD 1 Million Endowment Pledge from Alumnus

BITS Pilani: Pratul Shroff, an alumnus of Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani from the 1971 batch and the ex-founder and CEO of Einfochips, has pledged 1 million dollars to the university's endowment fund. Additionally, he will donate 4.5 crore over the next five years. This contribution will finance the creation of ten full fellowships to foster research at BITS Pilani and ten full scholarships for academically outstanding students from economically challenged backgrounds.

While expressing his motivation Pratul said, “I’m thankful to BITS Pilani for the critical role it played in shaping my life. Its strong emphasis on physics and math were instrumental in deepening my interest in modern physics and quantum physics. It’s my pleasure to contribute to the Alma mater. As a matter of fact, I believe it’s my duty to give back to the institution that gave me so much. On a broader context, I believe very strong and advanced institutions are a must for a bright future of any country."

The culture of alumni giving back at BITS Pilani is rapidly spreading far and wide. In the four batch reunions held at the Pilani campus between November and December 2023, all of them have contributed and pledged generously over USD 1.4 million (INR 11.5 crores). The total funds raised from alumni and CSR funding in the last financial year 2022-23 had crossed INR 32 Cr for different initiatives.

The Endowment Fund programme is extremely important in maintaining and strengthening BITS Pilani's dedication to innovation, research, and education excellence. The alumni contributions will make a substantial impact on the institute's long-term growth and development.

Prof V Ramgopal Rao, Vice Chancellor BITS Pilani while interacting with the Alumni said “I would like to use this opportunity to thank our Alumni sincerely for their significant contribution and to emphasize BITS Pilani is more than an institution—it is a beloved home for our alumni, committed to advancing education, research, and innovation."
