Distribution of coupons will be done via National Educational Alliance for Technology (NEAT) portal, based on student information given by institutes. It will also contain schools and non-technical higher education courses based on artificial intelligence.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) today launched technical books in regional languages and National Educational Alliance for Technology (NEAT) 3.0 under which 12 lakh ed-tech free course coupons will be distributed among socially and economically disadvantaged students. NEAT 3.0 will also contain the schools and other non-technical higher education courses based on artificial intelligence (AI).

The 12-lakh free coupons will be provided to those students whose annual family income is less than INR 8 lakh per annum. These coupons will be distributed through the NEAT portal. The Ministry of Education had announced NEAT, a public-private partnership between the government and education technology companies in India, in January 2020. The initiative is managed by the technical education regulator, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

90 institutes came forward to offer 26 engineering courses in six regional languages

The AICTE is facilitating quality institutes to start engineering courses in regional languages. This year, 90 institutes from 10 states came forward to offer 26 engineering courses in six regional languages. Accordingly, technical books have been written and translated in nine regional languages. The books have been developed by a team of interns led by Buddha Chandrasekhar, chief coordinating officer, NEAT, AICTE, using AICTE AI-based translation tool.

While launching NEAT 3.0, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “Language is the strength of India and it is important for critical thinking. I congratulate AICTE for starting engineering courses in regional languages.” Dropout rate in various engineering colleges was due to unavailability of courses in regional languages, he added.
