MITS Engineering College in Rayagada, Odisha, sealed after detection of cases, hostel A and B declared micro containment zones. 

As many as 49 students at the MITS Engineering College in Rayagada, Odisha, tested positive for the COVID. As per a report published in Odisha TV, on January 7, five students of the college were found infected with COVID. With 49 fresh cases, the total number of cases at the institute has increased to 54. Following the detection of new cases, the Rayagada district administration has declared the college's hostel A and B as micro containment zones and sealed the premises. 

Sources said 49 students of the college were found infected with the virus during random Covid testing conducted on the inmates of institutions. According to reports, all infected students are isolated at hostels and necessary medical help is being provided to them by the district administration. 

Meanwhile, the contacts of those found positive have been traced and the college premises is being sanitised to contain the spread of the virus. 

384 cases in 0-18 age group in Odisha 

Odisha reported 4,829 new COVID positive cases, including 384 cases in the 0-18 years age group, in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, Rayagada Collector Saroj Kumar Mishra said all necessary steps are being taken by the district administration to contain the spread of the virus. 

“As COVID-19 cases are rising in the district, some cases have been reported from a private college. So, we have declared micro containment zones and are strictly enforcing the Covid protocols,” said Mishra.
