Engineering fee up by INR 10,000 in Karnataka govt colleges
The fee at government engineering colleges in Karnataka has been increased from the existing INR 23,000 to INR 33,810. Â
Students who are getting admissions through the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) in the state-run engineering colleges will have to shell out INR 10,000 more as the Karnataka government has revised the fee structure for the 2021-22 academic year.Â
As per a report published in Deccan Herald, students who went to pay the fee after the allocation of seats in the first round were shocked when they were asked to pay extra. The fee at government engineering colleges in Karnataka has been increased from the existing INR 23,000 to INR 33,810. Â
Though the department of higher education is saying that the fee has been increased to build infrastructure and also to increase the demand for government colleges. Unhappy with the step, one of the parents, rued, “The Covid-19 has caused financial crisis and now this has come as a shocker.” “We are struggling to pay even INR 25,000, how will we pay the increased fee?,” questioned another parent. Â
As per the communication from the department of higher education issued to Karnataka Examinations Authority, the INR 33,810 includes even the university fees and it is an additional fee collected and has to be deposited to colleges to utilise for infrastructure development.Â
Karnataka Chief Minister Basvaraj Bommai had recently launched the National Education Policy (NEP-2020) in engineering colleges which the former had said would bring major changes in technical education in the state. He had said this at the launch of engineering textbooks as per NEP standard, engineering education in Kannada language, four-year BSc pharma courses in engineering colleges.Â
