A total of 669 BTech, 168 MTech, 34 PhD degrees were awarded to graduating students at the 52nd convocation ceremony of centenary year celebrations of Punjab Engineering College.

President Droupadi Murmu attended the 52nd convocation ceremony of centenary year celebrations of Punjab Engineering College (PEC) in Chandigarh. Of a total of 871 degrees, 678 degrees were awarded to the students at the convocation. A total of 669 BTech, 168 MTech, 34 PhD degrees were awarded to graduating students  

Students don traditional attire, ditch western robes for convocation 

Students of PEC received their degrees donning traditional attire, ditching western convocation robes. The institute had decided that traditional Indian attire will be the official dress code for all students, faculty and dignitaries at the ceremony.  

Addressing the gathering, the President said that PEC has emerged as a leading institute for research and contributed to global technological change. “It is a premier institute of the country as well as a harbinger of technical education in this region. The National Education Policy - 2020 states that a good educational institution is one where every student is welcomed with an inspiring environment, good infrastructure and appropriate resources exist."  

She said, I am happy to note that the Kalpana Chawla Chair of Geospatial Technology has been established at PEC. The number of women students should be increased in technical educational institutions to give more impetus to the progress of the country." Murmu said the students are entering a world of unlimited opportunities and possibilities and advised them to never forget their duties towards their country. She also urged them to keep Mahatma Gandhi’s message of ‘Sarvodaya’ in their individual priorities.
