Explore 'Alumni Connect' ideas, develop quality learning content: Edu Minister to IISER Pune
The education minister was present to lay the foundation stone of the newly-established Department of Data Science at IISER Pune.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan praised the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune saying that the institute is working to become a research-centric 'Liberal Science University.’ The statement came from the Union Education Minister on Friday, May 27. The Education Minister witnessed a presentation on the academic and research activities being undertaken by the institute today.
Dharmendra Pradhan also asked the institute to engage its alumni by exploring ideas such as ‘Alumni Connect’ for advancing quality education as well as for creating a vibrant and diverse knowledge pool. He further suggested the institute to focus on developing quality audio-video learning content. "Suggested IISERPune to also focus on developing quality audio-video learning content and explore ideas like, 'Alumni Connect' to engage the institute’s alumni for advancing quality education as well as for creating a vibrant & diverse knowledge pool,' the tweet reads.
The education minister was present to lay the foundation stone of the newly-established Department of Data Science at IISER Pune. He also inaugurated the National Facility for Gene Function in Health and Disease building, the Ministry of Education informed.
Taking it to Twitter, the Education Minister said, "Witnessed a presentation on the academic & research activities being undertaken by IISER Pune with BoG, Shri @sudhirmehtapune, Prof Jayant Udgaonkar and other senior academics. Happy to learn that IISER Pune is working to become a research-centric 'Liberal Science University.’"

IISER Pune also received encouragement from the education minister to become a more green and net-zero carbon campus with in-house waste recycling and waste-to-energy units. The minister asked the Institute of Science Education and Research to commence new initiatives and new courses relevant to the current and future needs of society and humanity.
