The GATE 2026 application window was open on August 28 at the GOAPS portal. Students had to visit the official website and create an account at the GATE candidate login 2026 to register for the exam. The application window without late fees will remain active till September 28. Candidates willing to apply must register and submit the form as soon as possible.
How to register and apply for the GATE 2026 exam?
To apply, candidates must visit the official website - gate2026.iitg.ac.in and follow the steps below -
- Visit the official page and click on the application portal
- Register by entering your name, mobile number, email address and other details.
- After successful registration, an enrollment ID will be sent to your contact details.
- Create a password and login using your enrollment ID and password you created.
- Fill out the required details correctly.
- Upload the documents (as per the specifications) mentioned
- Pay the GATE 2026 exam fee and submit the form.
- Take a printout for future reference.
GATE 2026 Eligibility
Candidates who are in the 3rd year or final year or have completed their graduation in engineering/technology/architecture/science/commerce/arts or humanities are eligible to apply.
What documents are required for the GATE 2026 application form?
Candidates must upload their photograph, signature, and a valid ID proof details as per the specifications. For SC/ST category, caste certificate is mandatory to upload, and PwD or dyslexic, their medical or PwD certificate is required. No certificates are required to upload for EWS or OBC-NCL category applicants.
GATE 2026 Exam Fees
This year, IIT Guwahati has revised the GATE 2026 exam fees for all categories-
- For female, SC, ST, and PwD applicants, the GATE 2026 registration fee is INR 1000 (for regular timeline) and for other applicants it is INR 2000 for one test paper.
- During the extended timeline (October 9), the fee is INR 1500 (for female, SC/ST and PwD) and INR 2500 for others.
GATE 2026 Exam Dates and Pattern
The GATE 2026 exam will be held on February 7, 8, 14, and 15 in two shifts. The exam will be held online for three hours (morning shift- 9:30 am to 12:30 pm) and (afternoon shift- 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm). The exam will be conducted for 30 GATE test papers. The GATE question paper 2026 will consist of MCQs, MSQs, and NATs, with general aptitude and core-subject topics. Candidates are advised to go through the GATE 2026 exam pattern of their respective branches.
To avoid GATE late fee charges, candidates must fill out their application form as soon as possible. Candidates who have made errors in their form, can make changes during the GATE 2026 correction facility.

The selection of candidates for the MDes programme offered at IIT Guwahati is based on the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) conducted as a part of the central admission procedure. In addition to this, MDes aspirants need to clear the Design Aptitude Test (conducted at DoD, ITG for shortlisted candidates based on CEED) followed by a personal interview and portfolio evaluation. Aspirants can apply on the CEED website (ceed.iitb.ac.in).
IIT Guwahati admissions are done through national-level tests conducted by various authorities for the admission to UG, PG, and PhD level courses. Admission to all the courses is entrance-based, therefore, candidates must appear for the respective entrance exam and qualify for its cutoff. The institute offer admission based on valid scores in JEE Main/ JEE Advanced/ GATE or equivalent to qualify for the admission process.
