The 500 kVA rooftop solar power system was inaugurated by IIITB governing body chairman S Gopalakrishnan. The system offers 498.43 KWP capacity which is nearly 40 per cent of the power requirement of the institute. 

The International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIITB) has installed a 500 kVA rooftop solar power system on its campus. The system was inaugurated by IIITB governing body chairman S Gopalakrishnan. The solar power system offers 498.43 KWP capacity which is nearly 40 per cent of the power requirement of the institute. IIITB has installed 393 solar panels on rooftops and has upgraded its infrastructure to tap green energy.  

Jagadish P Patil, Chief Administration Officer, said, “Our power requirement has shot up to 22 per cent as there is an increase in student strength. With this solar power system, we can reduce 40 per cent on the overall power bill.”  

IIIT Bangalore Director Debabrata Das said, “The campus of IIIT Bangalore has vast green spaces, a blend of modern and natural infrastructure, perfectly embodying the institute’s focus on a symbiotic relationship of cutting-edge technological research and education grounded in Indian ethos and value systems.
