IIT Guwahati ties up with Coursera to offer job-relevant online degrees

The institute also signed an agreement with industry partners to boost drone technology in Northeast. 

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with online learning enterprise Coursera. IIT Guwahati took to Twitter to announce this. It wrote, “Excited to expand our partnership with @coursera to now offer fully online degrees on their platform. Degrees continue to be one the most transformative credentials in the job market. Together, we’re increasing equitable access to high-quality, job-relevant, affordable education. 

Expanding drone-based training

The institute also signed an agreement with Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd (AMTRON) and RC Hobbytech Solutions Pvt Ltd (RCH). The aim is to work together on strengthening and expanding drone-based training, research and development, manufacturing for varied sectors such as agriculture, disaster management, wildlife conservation and health care, among others.  

The agreement was signed between Prof Parameswar K Iyer, officiating director, IIT Guwahati, and S Sundar, managing director, AMTRON, and Biswajit Dey, co-founder, RC Hobbytech Solutions Pvt Ltd. Iyer said, “The three organisations will work in tandem to engage in the research and development activities and the members of IIT Guwahati Drone Centre and Technology Incubation Hub will be integral parts in this endeavour.” 

IIT Guwahati will develop drones to cater to the needs of the state to contain disasters, AMTRON will provide communication support, and RCH will provide necessary technical expertise in developing the drones and associated systems. Along with this, a Disaster Response Cell will be established at IIT Guwahati which will be operated by the Drone Helpline Student Volunteer Team of the Institute and AMTRON Drone Team.
