IIT Kharagpur’s 2025–26 placement season opened with strong early momentum with reports saying five students secured packages above ₹2 crore and highest offer reaching ₹2.5 crore. By Day 3, institute had reportedly recorded 1,170 offers including 10 international offers from locations such as Japan, Dubai, Europe, London and Singapore.

Participants included product companies, proprietary trading and quantitative firms, DeepTech employers (semiconductors, AI infrastructure) and R&D-focused core engineering recruiters. Some participating recruiters include Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon and Goldman Sachs, among others.

Industry observers say pattern marks a shift from broad software/consulting hiring to more specialised, high-skill roles, a trend driven by demand for graduates with strengths in applied AI, high-performance computing, systems engineering and quantitative methods. Pre-placement offers (PPOs) from internships at global research labs and specialised teams have also buoyed early numbers, contributing to a higher share of flagship packages.

IIT Kharagpur’s Career Development Centre has so far described the drive as balanced, with emphasis on long-term career fit rather than headline CTCs; however, the institute is yet to publish a full, downloadable placement brochure enumerating company-wise offers, branch-wise conversion rates, median and average packages, or definitive domestic vs international breakdowns.
