IIT Mandi Welcomes All-Time High UG Batch; Female UG Enrollment Sees Significant Rise
IIT Mandi has admitted its largest ever undergraduate cohort this year and registered rise in female undergraduate enrollment compared to last year.
Indian Institute of Technology Mandi welcomed its new undergraduate students for 2025-26 academic year with Orientation Programme on campus. This year, Institute recorded its highest-ever undergraduate intake since its inception. A total of 592 students have joined the IIT Mandi UG programmes, up from 514 in 2024. Of the new cohort, 394 are male and 121 are female, highlighting the Institute’s steadily improving gender diversity. The increase in female enrolment from 96 in 2024 to 121 in 2025 reflects IIT Mandi’s sustained efforts to promote gender equality and enhance access to STEM education for women.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, Director, IIT Mandi, who addressed the newly admitted. He said, “Today is a momentous day. As we welcome the largest batch for our undergraduate programme, we are proud of the academic diversity of IIT Mandi. The increase in enrollment, particularly in the number of women, speaks the volume of the Institute's commitment to inclusive education and academic excellence. We take pride in witnessing our efforts in outreach, mentorship, and academic innovation bearing rich dividends."
Prof Behera further said, “The class of 2025–26 undergraduates too is a diverse mix of courses, with enrollments in 13 different courses of study, including the recently introduced Integrated MBA (IMBA) and popular branches such as Computer Science and Engineering, Data Science and AI, and Microelectronics & VLSI, etc.”
IIT Mandi Induction Program
Additionally, IIT Mandi is hosting a 10-day induction programme from August 1 to 10 to ease students into campus life. Throughout this period, students will engage with distinguished speakers on technology and motivation, take part in physical activities starting with daily yoga sessions, and participate in “Super Sports Sunday”, mental health and wellness sessions, nutrition and gender-sensitisation workshops. The programme also features interactive sessions, cultural events, and other enriching activities. It will conclude with a tree plantation drive and nature walk across the scenic IIT Mandi campus.

Aspirants must meet the eligibility conditions as prescribed by the institute and qualifying exam conducting body. IIT Mandi shortlists students for MSc based on their scores in the IIT JAM entrance exam. Further, the shortlisted candidates are called for CCMN Counselling. At the time of counselling, seat allotment is carried out on the basis of exam score, seat intake, reservation policy, and cut-off.

Candidates who meet the eligibility requirements can fill out the application form by visiting the IIT-M official website (iitmandi.ac.in). Aspirants further need to take the entrance test conducted by the institute followed by a personal interview round. The weightage of the exam score is 60% and for the interview is 40%. Based on candidates' performance in both the selection rounds, seat allotment is carried out.
