69 patents have been converted into products and processes, which have benefitted the country.

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have filed 1535 patents in the past three years. The total commercial value of these patents which have become commercially viable is Rs 1321.17 lakh.

While replying to a question raised by Member of Parliament (MP) K.J. Alphons in Rajya Sabha on the number of patents that have been registered by IITs in the country over the last three years; and how many of these patents have been converted into products and processes which have benefitted the country, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed that 1535 patents have been filed.

Pradhan informed that out of these, 69 patents have been converted into products and processes, which have benefitted the country. He said that the commercialization of patents is a continuous process. The total commercial value of these patents which have become commercially viable is Rs. 1321.17 lakh.

On the question of performance of IITs, the education minister informed that IITs are an institute of national importance and have been front runners in the field of research and innovation that have benefitted
industry and as well as society.
