India's Top IITs in NIRF Ranking 2025: IIT Madras Secures No. 1 Position Yet Again
MoE has released NIRF rankings 2025. The Indian Institute of Technology that enjoys the status of 'Institute of Eminence have made a great impact in the rankings this year too. IIT Madras tops the NIRF ranking 2025 in the overall category and also in the engineering category. Check the standings of the IITs in the NIRF ranking 2025 below.
NIRF Ranking 2025 - Top IITs
The Ministry of Education, Government of India, has released the NIRF Ranking 2025, marking a decade since the framework was first introduced. In the engineering category, the top eight spots have once again been dominated by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). IIT Madras has retained its position as the No. 1 institute, not only in engineering but also in the overall category. IISc Bangaluru took the second spot in the overall categry while IIT Bombay took the third rank.
Top IITs as per NIRF Ranking 2025 in the Engineering Category
True to tradition, the IITs continue to lead the ranking in the engineering category, securing most of the top positions among India’s best engineering institutions. While IIT Madras emerged at the top, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay took the second and third spots, respectively. IIT Madras has maintained its top position in the NIRF rankings since the rankings were first released in 2016.
As per the NIRF ranking 2025, the top 10 IITs this year in the engineering category are:

IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, and IIT Kanpur have maintained their top 4 positions consistently for three years (2023 - 2025). IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee have slightly alternated positions. It was 6th in 2023, 5th in 2024, and maintained 5th rank in 2025. IIT Guwahati was 7th in 2023, 7th again in 2024, but dropped to 8th in 2025. On the other hand, IIT Hyderabad was 8th in 2023, 8th in 2024, but climbed to 7th in 2025.
