Jadavpur University extends counselling duration to fill vacant BTech seats
The university will conduct independent counselling from December 14 to 17 and then on December 22. There are a total of 1,253 BTech seats at Jadavpur University, of which 435 are lying vacant.Â
As per a report published in The Telegraph, one-third of the engineering seats at Jadavpur University are yet to be filled. Earlier, the university had decided to hold independent counselling from December 14 to 17 to fill up the vacant seats. Now, it will also hold the exercise for an additional day, i.e. December 22 because of the rise in the number of vacant BTech seats. The university has a total of 1,253 BTech seats.Â
An official at Jadavpur University said the maximum number of BTech seats is vacant in computer science and engineering and electronics and telecommunication engineering, the two subjects that usually attracted top rankers in entrance exams.Â
The university had sent a withdrawal form to the enrolled students so that the candidates who were intended to withdraw their admission could walk out. The last date for the candidates to back out was December 13, 2021. Â
The option of withdrawal against getting a refund of the admission fee amounting INR 5,000 started from December 3 and 360 students had withdrawn till December 7.Â
Since the university did not find any takers for 48 seats after the state JEE board conducted the centralised counselling for admission to the BTech programmes for all the institutes, the total vacancy figure now stands at 435.Â
Atal Chaudhuri, JU’s dean of engineering and technology, said: “It was initially decided that counselling for the vacant seats will be held from December 14 to December 16. But due to the large number of vacancies, it has been decided that the counselling will be extended for another day (December 22) to fill the vacanct seats."
