The National Testing Agency (NTA) successfully conducted the JEE Main 2026 Session 2 Shift 1 exam today. The test was over at 12 pm across major exam centres on April 6, 2026 and as per the initial feedback received by candidates who appeared in the exam, the April 6, 2026, Session 2 (Shift 1) appears to be a strong contender for toughest shift of the season. Overall, the shift 1 on April 6 favored students with strong time management skills. Approximately 11.23 lakh candidates are registered for the Session 2 exams across 566 centres.

Physics took many by surprise, as it veered away from its usual formula-based nature and the questions were notably calculative, requiring more time to solve questions from topics such as Rotation, SHM, and Current Electricity. Standard high-weightage areas like Ray Optics and Thermodynamics remained central, but "Error Analysis" added a layer of precision-based difficulty.

Mathematics maintained its reputation for being lengthy. The questions were from Vectors, 3D Geometry, and Conic Sections, the integration of Calculus and Functions required significant time, making it difficult to complete the section on time.

Chemistry was moderate, though Physical Chemistry dominated the numerical section in Chemical Kinetics. Inorganic and Organic followed a standard pattern, providing relief compared to other two subjects.
