JoSAA 2025 Counselling Process

The JoSAA counselling process facilitates the allocation of seats for undergraduate engineering programs at various prestigious institutions such as IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs. While admission to IITs is based on JEE Advanced ranks, seats in other participating colleges are allotted based on JEE Main ranks. The Ministry of Education has established the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) to oversee the allocation process for a total of 127 institutes, including 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 27 IIITs, and 40 Other-GFTIs.

The JoSAA 2025 counselling process includes:

Step 1: Registration - To register, candidates need to log in to JoSAA’s official portal using their JEE Main 2025 application number, candidate name, mother’s name and date of birth.

Q:   I have JEE Mains rank above 1 lakh, can I get NIT via JoSAA counselling?
A:

Students who rank in JEE Main above 1 lakh are eligible for admission to NITs. But not possible in top institutions.

Q:   What is the counselling fee of JOSAA?
A:

There is no fee for JoSAA registration itself. However, when you are allotted a seat for the first time in any round, you will need to pay a processing fee of INR 5000 as part of the seat acceptance fee. This processing fee is included in the overall seat acceptance fee.

Q:   My JEE Main rank is above 1 lakh, can I get IIIT via the JoSAA counselling process?
A:

It is a bit difficult. IIITs admit candidates with JEE Main ranks up to around 54,000 in the open and gender-neutral categories. They primarily offer popular courses such as Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Information Technology to candidates with ranks above 25,000 in JEE Mains.

Step 2: Choose filling - After the registration, candidates will need to fill in their choices of branches and colleges in order of preference.

Step 3: Locking of Choices - Once candidates are done with choice filling, they have to lock their choices and take a printout of the selected options for future reference.

Step 4: Seat Allocation - Candidates will be allotted seats based on their rank, choices entered for programmes and colleges, and availability of seats. If students are satisfied with the institute and programme, they can choose the Freeze option; otherwise, they can choose either Float or Slide.

Step 5: Payment of seat acceptance fee - The candidates have to pay the seat acceptance fee online. The candidates who will not pay the seat acceptance fee, their documents will not be verified.

Step 6: Document Verification - In this step, students will be required to get their documents verified as per the schedule. Document verification will be conducted online. Only after the verification of documents, students will be allowed to report to the allocated institute for final admission.

Step 7: Reporting at the Institute - At the last step, students have to report to the allotted institute to deposit the remaining fee and complete other admission-related formalities.
