No. In each JoSAA round, a candidate is allotted “only one” seat based on the rank and preference order filled in by the candidate during the choice filling stage.

State code of eligibility (applicable to NIT+ system) in JoSAA means the code of the state from where the candidate has first appeared Class XII (or equivalent) examination.

Online Reporting involves completing several steps after a seat is allocated in a JoSAA round. These steps include accepting the seat and opting for Freeze/Float/Slide, uploading required documents, remitting the seat acceptance fee, and responding to any queries raised by the verifying officers.

After downloading and printing the medical certificate, students have to get it filled by a Registered Medical Practitioner. 

• Visit a nearby general doctor who is registered.
• Carry the printed medical document.
• Get yourself examined by the general physician as per the criteria mentioned on the medical certificate.
• The doctor needs to fill all the field in the medical certificate and add their name, signature and registration number at the end.

JoSAA mock seat allotment is a process via which JoSAA allocates seats to the candidates for trial and analysis. This is not the final allotment, it is just a trial allotment, which will help the candidates understand which seat institute and branch they might get based on the choices they have filled in the JoSAA 2026 choice filling process.

IITs and IISc conduct open house where candidates are invited to participate and get their queries resolved around academics, campus life, research, and career opportunities. Offline participants also get an opportunity to take a guided campus tour. The open houses usually have a panel of professors and current students to resolve any queries.

A medical certificate in JoSAA is a mandatory document verifying that a candidate is physically and mentally fit to pursue an engineering program at participating institutes - IITs, NITs, IIITs, or GFTIs.  The medical certificate is available in the JoSAA business rule (Annexure 7 - Page 99).

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) will be participating in JoSAA 2026 for the first time. Admission to all four BTech courses at IISc shall be through JoSAA 2026. No separate application is required to be submitted on the IISc admission portal.

PAF is Partial Admission Fee, which is to be paid by candidates who get provisionally allotment in the NIT+System during the JoSAA rounds, provided the seat has not been cancelled or withdrawn.

The seat allotment process in JoSAA takes into consideration the following factors:

They would like to be considered for better course from their choice list in any college. These candidates will be considered in upcoming JoSAA rounds.
• Slide: Candidates who select "Slide" will also be considered in further counselling rounds. These candidates will be considered for better course preference from their choice list, but in the same institution allotted.

No. 'Saving' a choice is NOT the same as 'Locking' a choice. A choice that is only saved but not locked, can be retrieved later on and modified. But a choice that is locked cannot be modified in JoSAA counselling process.

JoSAA releases cutoffs separately for every round. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority will release Rounds 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 cutoffs on the official website at josaa.nic.in.

No. You are only allowed to fill choices once before entering the first round of JoSAA counselling and that choice list is final.

JoSAA counselling registration 2026 includes authentication using the JEE Main 2026 application number, candidate name, mother’s name and date of birth. Once authentication is done, candidates can login to the JoSAA online portal with their application number of JEE Main, the JoSAA password created, and the OTP sent to the registered mobile number and email ID.

The State of Eligibility proof is the official verification document that identifies the state from which you cleared your qualifying exam. This determines your home state quota allocation for engineering admissions. After the JoSAA choice filling, the JoSAA seat allotment result is issued. Based on the choices filled by the candidates, their ranks and their category, seats across the institutions are allotted in each counselling round.

If a candidate does not lock their choices in JoSAA counselling, then their last saved choices will be auto-locked and will be used for seat allotment in all the rounds.

Once the candidates have filled the choices, they are allowed to manage them. This means candidates will be allowed to remove and rearrange their choices as many times as they want before the JoSAA choice locking date. Candidates can rearrange their choices by changing the choice number against the choices. The choices can also be interchanged from one option to the other easily, or candidates can select multiple choices at once for bulk deletion.

JoSAA choice filling means filling of preferences for courses and colleges (preferences for IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs) that the candidate wants to be considered for admission. To select the courses and colleges, candidates have to make sure that they use the previous year's cutoff trends and get an estimate of which course and college have the highest chances of getting into, as per their JEE Main/JEE Advanced rank.

The JoSAA 2026 counselling has started at josaa.nic.in. The last date to register and lock choices is June 11.

The JoSAA cutoff, that is, the opening and closing ranks, will be released after each seat allotment round. The opening and closing ranks will be available at josaa.nic.in, a day or a few hours after the seat allotment result is announced.

Every candidate who satisfies one or more of the following criteria is eligible for participation in JoSAA:

5. Secured a rank in JEE (Main) 2026 Paper 2b for BPlan program at NITs, IIEST, IIITs and Other-GFTIs, and satisfies the “Performance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination”

Once the JoSAA registration ends, no further editing/changes in the submitted online form are allowed. Therefore candidates should ensure that fill only correct details in the JoSAA 2026 application form.

CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) and JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) are both involved in the seat allocation process for engineering admissions in IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs. However, via JoSAA, seats are allotted to all available seats in IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs. But via CSAB seat is allotted only at NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs against the vacant seats left after JoSAA counselling last round based on JEE Main scores.

•  The highest increase in seats has been recorded in IIITs, which have added 1,578 seats compared to the previous year.
• GFTIs have also witnessed a significant rise with 1,464 additional seats.
• IITs and NITs have increased their intake by 791 and 637 seats, respectively.

PAF: JoSAA partial admission fee (PAF) is given below

After the last round of JoSAA 2026, candidates with a provisionally allocated seat (allocated in any round of JoSAA 2026 and not cancelled or withdrawn) in NIT+System must remit the Partial Admission Fee (PAF). Failure to pay the partial admission fee will result in the rejection of the offered/allocated seat.

• Last year, IITs offered 18,160 seats, NITs offered 24,525 seats, IIITs offered 9,940 seats, and the Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes offered 10,228 seats. In total, 128 institutes are offering  62,853 seats.
• For the academic session 2024-25, the IITs offered 17760 seats, NITs offered 24229 seats, IIITs offered 8546 seats, and the GFTIs offered a total of 9402 seats via the JoSAA counselling.

Once candidates finish registering for JoSAA, they can go to the JoSAA choice filling step. This process allows candidates to choose and prioritise their choice of institutions and courses.

The JoSAA 2026 counselling registrations will start today at 5 pm on the official website josaa.nic.in.

IISc Bangalore will participate in JoSAA counselling this year. This year, there will be 3 new courses on offer, which are:

In the process of online JoSAA document verification, candidates have to address the queries raised by the document verification officers. The document verification officer may raise certain queries online under the respective login of the candidates against the documents uploaded. These queries must be addressed by the deadline. If the queries remain unanswered, then the candidates shall not be allowed to take part in the further counselling process, and they will lose their seats. 

The admission process for BTech course at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) will now be through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), this year onwards.

When allocated a seat for the first time, candidates must pay the fee during that specific round. Failing to pay the fee means rejecting the offer, which immediately disqualifies the candidate from participating in any subsequent JoSAA seat allocation rounds.

Although the initial registration for JoSAA does not have any fee, a processing fee must be paid when a seat is allocated. This processing fee is included in the total seat acceptance fee, which needs to be paid by any candidate who receives an allotment for the first time in their specific round.
