NIT Trichy starts online classes for 1st year BTech students
The institute isĀ planningĀ to start physical classes for the new batch by March 2022 and that too after considering the COVID-19 situation.Ā
The classes for the new batch of BTech and BArch students at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirappalli or NIT Trichy has started online.Ā
As per a report published in The Times of India, around 1,135 students have been admitted to various courses offered by the institute. Of these, 1,021 students are from different parts of the country. For now, the institute will continue to teach in the online mode for both theory and practical sessions for the first-year students. It isĀ planingĀ to start physical classes for the new batch by March 2022.Ā
In a release, NIT Trichy said the first rank student from the common rank list has opted for the computer science and engineering branch at the institute. The institute maintained the ninth position in engineering in theĀ National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2021Ā released recently.Ā
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the management of the institute said the ensuing academic year would be challenging in conducting the classes and examination amid the restrictions.Ā
āHostel and dining facilities are common for the students, so we are planning to start physical classroom session for the freshers very carefully, probably in March 2022, that too only after considering the then COVID-19 situation,ā said G Kannabiran, Director (in-charge), NIT Trichy. Kannabiran took the charge of the post in November this year.Ā
The institute decided to start first-year engineering classes in the online mode considering that a section of the first-year students would not have completed their vaccination status and calling them to the institute was cited as a risky move, the report added.
