Suhas S Joshi takes charge as IIT Indore Director
Suhas S Joshi could not assume the office earlier as he was infected with COVID-19. He succeeded Neelesh Kumar Jain, who remained at the post for two years.
Suhas S Joshi took over as the second regular Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore today (January 31, 2022). Joshi, who was a mechanical engineering professor and the dean of alumni and corporate relations at IIT Bombay, was appointed as the Director of IIT Indore on January 10, 2022. He could not assume the office earlier as he was infected with COVID-19. He succeeded Neelesh Kumar Jain, who remained at the post for two years.
Joshi is the second permanent Director of the institute. Pradeep Mathur, who is also from IIT Bombay, was appointed as the first Director of IIT Indore for a period of five years. Neelesh Kumar Jain was the officiating Director.
Joshi did his bachelorβs in engineering from Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute in Bombay and masters in engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirapalli. He went on to pursue a PhD in mechanical engineering from IIT Bombay where he continued to become the head of the department in 2014 till 2017.
IIT Indore is located in Madhya Pradesh and was established by the Government of India in 2009. The institute offers various undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes and the courses include BTech, MTech, MSc, five-year BTech plus MTech, MS (research) and Doctor of Philosophy. IIT Indore bagged the 10th position in the engineering category in the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings 2021.
