Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET) has opened admissions for BE/BTech programmes. This year, the institute recorded an unprecedented number of applications for its undergraduate courses as well. In a significant move to enhance its learning ecosystem, TIET has launched the TIET-UQ Centre of Excellence in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in collaboration with The University of Queensland, Australia. Now operational at dsai.thapar.edu.
TIET BE/BTech Admission Cutoff
The TIET BE/BTech cutoff percentiles in the first and second rounds of counselling ranged between 97 and 98. Several programmes witnessed intense competition, particularly Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), the newly launched Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) programme, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science & Business Systems.
These sought-after streams drew top-performing students from across the country, contributing to a dynamic and academically driven cohort. Additionally, there has been a marked rise in demand for traditional engineering disciplines such as Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, and Mechatronics.

TIET remains committed to making quality education accessible and merit-based. In the previous academic year alone, the institute awarded scholarships worth over INR 32 crore under merit and means categories, enabling deserving students to pursue their academic goals without financial barriers.

TIET also offers lateral entry admissions for diploma holders, allowing eligible students to join directly in the second year of the BE/BTech programme. This pathway not only saves a full academic year but also provides merit-based scholarships of up to 50%. Lateral entry students receive the same academic rigour, access to state-of-the-art laboratories, campus facilities, training opportunities, internships, and placement support as regular BE/BTech students.
Thapar University admission to the BTech course is a two-way process, one is entrance-based and another is merit-based. Interested candidates can apply for TIET BTech admission either way. Thapar University's 50% of seats will be filled on the basis of JEE Main scores and the rest 50% is based on the marks secured in the Class 12 examination. The minimum eligibility criteria is different for both entrance and merit-based admission. TIET is currently accepting applications for the BE/ BTech courses, interested candidates must visit the official website of TIET to apply online.
Thapar University offers four-year BE/BTech courses at the undergraduate level, candidates seeking admission to TIET Patiala must visit the official website of the University to apply online. Yes, TIET considers Class 12 marks for admission to the BE/BTech courses along with valid JEE Main scores. Based on the marks secured in the entrance exam, a merit list is prepared. The merit list prepared by the University for BTech admission also includes the marks secured in Physics, Chemistry and Maths during the Class 12 examination.
