Three names shortlisted for VTU VC’s post

The three candidates shortlisted for the VC’s post are Anand S Deshpande, VTU Registrar (Academic), Gopal Mugeraya, Director, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa and S Vidyashankar, Vice-Chancellor, Karnataka State Open University. 

The search committee has picked three names for vice chancellor's post for the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU). As per information, the three candidates shortlisted for the VC’s post are Anand S Deshpande, VTU Registrar (Academic), Gopal Mugeraya, Director, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa and S Vidyashankar, Vice-Chancellor, Karnataka State Open University.  

Panel submits list of candidates to Governor

The search committee under the chairmanship of Rajiv Gandhi Technological University of Madhya Pradesh, VC Sunil Kumar has submitted the list of shortlisted names to Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, also the Chancellor of the university. The Governor is expected to announce the appointment in two-three days, a university official said. 

Deshpande has served as principal and professor of mechanical engineering in Gogte Institute of Technology in Belaglavi earlier. He has been serving as VTU Registrar for the last few years. Mugeraya has served as NIT Agartala Director and professor of bio-chemical engineering in NIT Karnataka for three decades. 

Vidyashankar has served as professor of mechanical engineering in Bangalore Institute of Technology before his appointment as KSOU Vice-Chancellor. 

Meanwhile, two High Court lawyers have filed a complaint with the Karnataka Lokayukta against VTU VC Karisidappa and Registrar Anand Deshpande for allegedly flouting government norms by releasing funds and taking major policy decisions at the fag end of Karisidappa’s tenure. As per a circular dated September 28, 2021, issued by the Karnataka Governor, vice-chancellors of universities in the state were directed not to take any major policy decisions if their tenure ends within two months.
