Through NATS scheme Modi Govt is looking provide employment to 7 lakh youth in the next 5 years.

The Union Cabinet has approved Rs 3,054 crore under the National Apprenticeship Scheme (NATS) to prepare skilled manpower in the country. Monthly financial assistance will be provided to the apprentice who have completed a degree or diploma in Arts, Science, Engineering or Commerce.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informing about the decision wrote on Twitter: “To prepare skilled manpower in new-age industry areas, and give thrust to apprenticeship as envisaged in the NEP 2020, Cabinet led by PM Narendra Modi has approved stipendary support of Rs 3,054 crore under the National Apprenticeship Scheme(NATS) for the next 5 years.”

The Centre has allocated Rs 3,054 Crore Stipendiary Support Under the National Apprenticeship Scheme (NATS) for the next 5 years from 2021-22 to 2025-26 for enhancing employability and preparing skilled manpower.

Monthly stipend to Apprentices

Apprentices who have completed graduate & diploma programmes in engineering, humanities, science and commerce will be given a stipend of Rs 9,000 and Rs 8,000 per month respectively.

“To further govt’s commitment to ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas & Sabka Prayas’, the scope of NATS has been expanded to include students from humanities, science & commerce besides the engineering steam. This will provide employment to 7 lakh youth in the next 5 years,” wrote Pradhan.

He added that the expenditure of Rs 3,054 crore approved today is 4.5 times more than the expenditure made under NATS during the last 5 years. Education Minister writes: “PM Modi’s govt. is committed to boost employment, equip youth with employable skills of the 21st century and give impetus to Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”

In line with National Education Policy 2020, Government has approved 4.5 times higher expenditure for the next five years to give a boost to an apprenticeship. NATS will provide apprenticeships in emerging areas under Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and industry sectors identified under PM Gati Shakti.
