VITEEE 2026 exam pattern introduces negative marking; students to choose accuracy over attempt

VITEEE 2026 revised exam pattern has been released by the authorities. With the introduction of negative marking in the exam, the students will have to change their preparation approach as more focus has to be given to accuracy. Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has started the VITEEE 2026 admission process. Along with the official VITEEE 2026 registration link, the authorities have also made major announcement about the change in the exam pattern. According to the newly revised exam pattern, students will now be negatively marked for their wrong answers. Before, there was no negative marking in the exam. The marks allocated for correct answers has also been changed. Now, the students will score four marks for every correct answer. Other details in the exam pattern remain unchanged.

VITEEE 2026 Exam Pattern: How will the negative marking impact the students?

The introduction of the negative marking will affect the students, as it will change the way they will approach the examination. Previously, the students were able to attempt all questions without any fear of negative marking but now they will have to be careful while selecting the ones to answer. There is high risk in guesswork, as it can cost 5 marks to the student (1 negative mark and 4 marks that could have been scored if the answer was correct). Unanswered questions are not marked, so it is safe option.

During preparation, the students should focus on conceptual clarity. They should understand the topics and concepts well so that they have certainty while attempting the question paper. While practicing for the exam, the students should solve questions with maximum accuracy. Prioritizing important topics and frequently repeated questions is also a good way to prepare for the exam.

VITEEE 2026 Application Form OUT!

VITEEE 2026 application form has been released online at viteee.vit.ac.in. Students can now submit the application form until March 31, 2026. All of the required details have to be filled in the application form. The fee to be paid is INR 1350. VITEEE 2026 will be held tentatively from April 28 to May 3, 2026.
