Gynaecologist in Maharashtra beaten by patient's relatives

Similar to Dr Archana's incident, one more Gynaecologist in Maharastra has been reportedly beaten up by relatives of a patient who died due to PPH complications after childbirth. Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has just tweeted about the incident while tagging PMO, Mansukh Mandaviya and Amit Shah.

FAIMA tweet reads, "Assault on Duty Doctor! #DrNileshMhaske Gynaecologist at #Tisgaon(Maharastra) was rudely beaten by relatives of a patient after death of Twin PPH. It is need of hour to enact #CentralProtectionAct by @PMOIndia @narendramodi @HMOIndia @AmitShah @mansukhmandviya"

After Dr Archana's suicide due to harassment by the patient's relatives, RDA AIIMS Delhi in its press release had written, "Postpartum hemorrhage is a well-known complication post-childbirth and there are clear directions that no FIR can be filed on a doctor without negligence being certified by the district medical negligence board."

"We want to warn all, that this unwarranted and unchecked harassment of doctors following complications after medical treatment will make affordable medical care impossible for most Indians. And we shall not accept the normalization of such behaviour at any cost," added the press release.

Resident doctors protested to demand safe work environment

A similar incident had happened in Rajasthan on March 29, when a gold medalist doctor died by suicide after allegedly being harassed by a patient's family. In this incident also the patient had died of PPH. In her suicide note, Dr Archana had mentioned that PPH is a known complication and one should not harass doctors for such incidents.

After her suicide, Resident doctors at AIIMS Delhi and PGIMER Chandigarh protested to demand a safe work environment for doctors. The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) had also condemned the tragic incident.
