PGIMER's doctors demand safe working environment
Following the death of Dr Archana in Rajasthan, the resident doctors association of PGIMER conducted a peaceful protest and demanded a safe working environment for the doctors.
A day after a female gynaecologist committed suicide in Rajasthan due to alleged harassment by the patient's family, resident doctors of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) conducted a peaceful protest under the banner of the association of resident doctors (ARD). Amid the increasing incidents of doctors' harassment by patients' families, they demanded a safe working environment for doctors.
PGIMER's doctors are demanding a central law to protect doctors and punish all those who assault doctors.
ARD president Dr Rahul Chakravarty said, “Workplace harassment of doctors continues unabated and this time under the cover of people who you would normally turn to for ensuring law enforcement,” as reported by Hindustan Times.
“The doctor, a senior obstetrician who has saved innumerous lives during her tenure could not bear the injustice meted to her. Against all the guidelines of Supreme Court, without any investigation, police had registered a case under Section 302 (attempt to murder) against her,” he added.
