The Haryana government decided to facilitate the state-run college students falling under the scheduled caste category (SC) with free books, according to the government officials. An official statement quoting a spokesperson of the Higher Education Department said on behalf of the director-general of the department, principals of all government colleges have been directed that the data of students belonging to the Scheduled Caste category who will be getting monetary support for books for the year 2020-21 by the directorate should be verified and updated on college ERP-portal by January 29.

However, before providing free books to these students, the official stated that “Verification of a student's SC class certificate, Haryana resident certificate, Aadhaar number…should be done." The spokesperson said money to purchase books will be transferred to students’ accounts directly only if the details are found authenticated. The ERP-portal has been designed to cater to the requirements of the colleges for a robust database.

Meanwhile, the Higher Education Department closed its admission registration window after extending the deadline until January 25, 2021, to fill the vacant seats in postgraduate (PG) classes in colleges and universities of Haryana. In order to inform the aspirants about the same, the Directorate of Information, Public Relations and Languages Department, Haryana posted the information about the same on its official Twitter handle. The official tweet states, “The Haryana Higher Education Department has extended the last date for admission to fill the vacant seats of postgraduate classes in colleges and universities of the state till January 25, 2021.” The official reports also stated that apart from private universities, all government, aided and self-financed colleges were instructed to keep the 'PG Admission' portal open until January 25, 2021.
