Bihar to Form Dedicated Higher Education Department to Strengthen Quality, Research and Job Readiness
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the state needs stronger higher and technical education systems to achieve its employment target.
Bihar government will set up a separate Higher Education Department to upgrade quality of university and technical education, expand vocational education pathways and improve employability for students. As per a tweet shared by CM Nitish Kumar the decision is part of state’s broader plan to generate 1 crore jobs and employment opportunities between 2025 and 2030.
In his announcement, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said state needs stronger higher and technical education systems to achieve its employment target. His post emphasised that “quality higher and technical education be made available to the youth” and that the new department will work toward qualitative improvements, research and innovation, and employment-oriented learning.
Higher Education Department is one of three new departments cleared by the government. The other two, the Youth, Employment and Skill Development Department and the Civil Aviation Department, are expected to help with intensive monitoring of schemes and smoother implementation of training and industry-linked initiatives.
The government has also approved a Directorate of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises to set up mega skill centres in every district, and a Bihar Marketing Promotion Corporation to support better distribution, visibility and market linkages for products from agriculture, food processing, handicrafts, rural industries and cottage sectors. These measures are aimed at widening job opportunities for youth across sectors.
Nitish Kumar noted that these structural changes are intended to ensure “maximum opportunities for jobs and employment” while preparing young people to become more skilled and self-reliant.
