Delhi University likely to reopen for offline classes from Feb 17
DU Proctor today addressed the protesting students and assured them that the university will reopen from February 17.
The University of Delhi (DU), which is yet to make a formal announcement for reopening of the campus for offline classes is likely to do so soon by allowing departments and its affiliated colleges to resume classes in offline mode from next week.
Various students associations of the Delhi University have been protesting for some time demanding the reopening of the campus. The students are demanding the immediate reopening of DU campuses in light of the DDMA guidelines that were released on Friday.
The DU Proctor today addressed the protesting students and gave verbal reassurance as well as a written statement in a letter stating that the university will reopen from February 17. โAlthough we wait for the official notice to be released soon that reaffirms this statement of the Proctor as well as provides the students a detailed plan as to how the reopening will be handled,โ said SFI in a statement.
โOur protests have been going on constantly since the past three days. This, we believe, is one of the crucial reasons for the DU Procterโs statement today because it was shown to the administration that they can no longer stall the students. However, just a simple statement is not enough to convince us, we need an official notice. Until then our struggle will not die down,โ said Prachi, SFI Delhi State Committee member.
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority last week allowed for the reopening of colleges and university campuses for offline academic activity. Following this order, Jawaharlal Nehru University and GGSIPU issued circulars regarding the reopening of campuses, while Delhi University is yet to take a call.
