The University of Delhi has announced to establish Centre for Independence and Partition Studies

University of Delhi is organising an exhibition on the occasion of Partition horror Remembrance Day at conference center, on 14th August. The University of Delhi announces the establishment of the Centre for Independence and Partition Studies, in pursuance to the provisions under Ordinance XX (Y), University of Delhi. The Centre is envisaged as an institute par excellence in the relevant field of research and resources.

Director, South Delhi Campus Prof. Shri Prakash Singh said that this Centre would function under the Chairmanship and patronage of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Yogesh Singh. The Governing Body of the Centre has also been announced that comes into immediate effect for a period of three years.

Prof. Shri Prakash Singh informed that the Centre shall focus on the different facets of the freedom struggle and its aftermath. There are innumerable facts, anecdotes, stories and memories that are waiting to be unearthed to depict the intense human tragedy, pain, loss, survival intensity, and finally triumph, to emerge out of the horrors of partition. The Centre is a sincere academic endeavour to encourage research and learning through dedicated archival sources and oral histories. It is ambitioned to be created as a dedicated resource centre for exclusive studies in the domain. The Centre will prioritize highlighting the historical narratives of the people who have gone unacknowledged, who are seldom referred in the mainstream and those whose identities have received a biased and prejudiced treatment, and whose route-maps of displacement and migration have affected permanently their future generations and embossed scars for a life-time. It is not just about a geographical partition, but emotional, economic and cultural damages.

Prof. Shri Prakash Singh said that the Centre would undertake research, collaborations and develop linkages, including MoUs, within the country and outside. The research is ultimately expected to culminate in publications, alongside seminars, conferences and a periodic journal. A dedicated library and a digital-resource electronic database are already underway for larger dissemination of knowledge in the field. The Centre is envisaged as an institute par excellence in the relevant field of research and resources.
