Jamia Millia Islamia Appoints JNU Prof Mazhar Asif as New Vice Chancellor
Professor Mazhar Asif is currently working as a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University's School of Language and is known for his significant contribution to the university.
'The president of India, in her capacity as the visitor of Jamia Millia Islamia, has been pleased to appoint Prof Mazhar Asif, School of Languages, JNU, New Delhi, as the vice-chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia for a period of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier,'' as per media reports.
About Prof Mazhar Asif
Prof Asif has his area of expertise in Sufism and medieval history of India. Previously, Asif has served as a member of the executive council of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad National Urdu University and Jawaharlal Nehru University. Along with these, he also held a few influential positions in the National Council for the Promotion of Urdu Language and the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). The professor has presented over 20 research papers at several national and international conferences and also has nine books published in Persian, English, and Assamese languages.
