Study in New Zealand for a World-Class Education,’ PM Luxon Tells Indian Students at IIT Delhi

New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, speaking at IIT Delhi, urged Indian students to consider New Zealand for higher education, emphasizing its globally ranked universities, safe environment, and welcoming culture. He described New Zealand as “the best country on planet Earth” for education and research, highlighting the country’s commitment to academic excellence and international collaborations.

Expressing his gratitude to IIT Delhi’s leadership, including Professor Banerjee, Luxon acknowledged the institute’s global reputation and its collaboration with New Zealand’s academic institutions. He highlighted the partnership between IIT Delhi and the New Zealand Research Centre, which involves all eight universities in New Zealand, covering a broad range of research initiatives.

“It is fantastic to see New Zealand institutions partnering with Indian institutions. What we have here at IIT Delhi and the collaboration with the New Zealand Research Centre is very special,” Luxon said. He also noted the strong relationship between the University of Canterbury and IIT Delhi, particularly in areas such as climate change and disaster resilience.

Luxon shared insights from his discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where both leaders emphasized the transformative power of education. He reflected on his personal journey, crediting the New Zealand education system for shaping his career and advocating for education as a key driver of societal and economic progress.

“As India transitions from a low to middle to high-income economy, and as New Zealand focuses on enhancing productivity and creating high-paying jobs, education remains critically important for both our countries,” Luxon stated.

The New Zealand Prime Minister also extended an invitation to Indian students, encouraging them to explore higher education opportunities in New Zealand. He highlighted the country’s academic excellence, with all eight of its universities ranking among the top two percent globally, and emphasized New Zealand’s welcoming environment for international students.

“If you want a high-quality educational experience, you can’t beat New Zealand. It’s a wonderful, safe environment with incredible landscapes and friendly people. Our universities offer top-tier education, and we’re eager to strengthen ties with Indian students and researchers,” he remarked.

Luxon reiterated that education and people-to-people connections serve as the foundation for deeper bilateral ties. He emphasized that academic collaborations lead to knowledge exchange, research breakthroughs, and entrepreneurial opportunities that benefit both nations.

“We need to step up our academic partnerships to the next level. From strong relationships come great discussions, innovative ideas, and ultimately, impactful projects that improve lives in both India and New Zealand,” he said.

Concluding his address, Luxon reaffirmed his commitment to fostering stronger educational collaborations between the two nations. He encouraged students and faculty to continue building academic relationships, exploring new research avenues, and pushing the boundaries of knowledge.

“Education is at the heart of our shared vision for progress. It has the power to transform lives, uplift communities, and drive economic growth. Let’s keep working together to deepen and broaden our academic and research partnerships,” he concluded.

Luxon’s visit to IIT Delhi is part of his broader engagement with Indian institutions, reinforcing New Zealand’s commitment to strengthening educational and research ties with India.
