UGC has barred Monad University, Hapur, from enrolling Ph.D. students for 2025-26 to 2029-30 over violations of Ph.D. regulations, warning that degrees awarded during this period will not be recognised.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has debarred Monad University, Kasmabad, Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, from admitting students to its Ph.D. programmes for the next five academic years (2025-26 to 2029-30) after finding serious violations of UGC Ph.D. Regulations.

According to the UGC, a Standing Committee constituted to monitor compliance with Ph.D. regulations examined data submitted by the university and found that it had failed to follow the provisions of the UGC Ph.D. Regulations and academic norms for awarding doctoral degrees. The commission had given Monad University an opportunity to explain its non-compliance, but its responses were found unsatisfactory.

Based on the committee’s recommendation, the UGC has directed the university to immediately stop enrolling Ph.D. students. It has also issued an advisory to prospective students and parents, warning them against taking admission in Monad University’s Ph.D. programmes during the debarment period.

The UGC has clarified that any Ph.D. degree awarded by Monad University during this period will not be recognised for higher education or employment purposes in the absence of its approval.
