This fake notice comes amid heightened tensions following India's military strikes on Pakistan earlier on May 7, called "Operation Sindoor," in response to a Terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammau and Kashmir.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a warning about a fabricated public notice circulating under its name, falsely claiming that "all examinations at degree, postgraduate, diploma, and certification levels, scheduled henceforth, stand cancelled" due to an "ongoing war situation." The fake notice, marked with the UGC logo and signed by a supposed official named Rashmi Mittal, also advises students to "return to their homes at the earliest in the interest of safety and security."

The UGC has confirmed that no such directive has been issued and labeled the notice as fake. The commission clarified that all official updates regarding examinations and academic activities are exclusively available on the UGC website (www.ugc.gov.in) and its verified social media channels.

In a statement, the UGC urged students, faculty, and higher educational institutions not to fall for the misinformation, emphasizing that spreading such false information is a punishable offence. The commission encouraged stakeholders to stay alert and rely solely on official UGC sources for accurate information.

This fake notice comes amid heightened tensions following India's military strikes on Pakistan earlier on May 7, called "Operation Sindoor." In response to a militant attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists, India launched precision missile strikes on nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, targeting what it called "terrorist infrastructure." Pakistan reported 26 civilian deaths and vowed retaliation, calling the strikes an "act of war," while India claimed the operation was "measured and non-escalatory," aimed solely at terror camps. The conflict has led to school closures in border areas, flight cancellations, and increased security measures across the region, fueling public anxiety and the spread of misinformation like the fake UGC notice.

For further updates, the UGC has directed the public to follow its official website and social media handles.
