In a letter addressed to vice chancellors of all universities and principals of colleges, Prof. Joshi underscored the significance of maintaining a structured academic schedule for effective teaching-learning and research.

In a recent directive, the University Grants Commission (UGC) Secretary, Prof. Manish R. Joshi, has emphasized the critical importance of compliance with academic calendars by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). In a letter addressed to vice chancellors of all universities and principals of colleges, Prof. Joshi underscored the significance of maintaining a structured academic schedule for effective teaching-learning and research.

The letter elaborated on the pivotal role played by academic calendars in providing a comprehensive overview of planned events throughout the academic year, including class commencements, examinations, vacations, and other significant milestones. Prof. Joshi emphasized that releasing the academic calendar well in advance ensures clarity and alignment among all stakeholders, particularly students.

Quoting relevant regulations, including the UGC (Minimum Standards of Instruction for the Grant of the First Degree through Formal Education) Regulations, 2003, and the UGC (Minimum Standards of Instruction for the Grant of the Master's Degree through Formal Education) Regulations, 2003, Prof. Joshi highlighted specific timelines for commencement of classes, declaration of results, and flexibility allowances for professional courses.

Additionally, the letter referred to clauses from the UGC (Grant of Degree and Other Awards by Universities) Regulations, 2008, mandating HEIs to announce their academic calendars at the beginning of each academic year, encompassing schedules for all activities and degree awards.

In light of these regulations, HEIs were urged to promptly announce their academic calendars, adhering strictly to prescribed timelines for the commencement of the academic session, examination schedules, and result declarations as specified by the UGC or relevant Statutory Regulatory Councils.

The directive from the UGC Secretary serves as a reminder to HEIs nationwide to prioritize adherence to academic calendar guidelines, ensuring smooth functioning and fostering excellence in higher education.
