Power Grid Corporation to support women students

Under the collaboration, Power Grid Corporation will support the economically weaker students with a whopping amount of funds, i.e. INR 10.5 crore. According to the institute’s officials, it is the highest single contribution that the institute has received in the financial year 2021-22. The merit-cum-means scholarship would cover the tuition fee. It also helps women students pursue the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) programmes.

Talking about the initiative, the director personnel of Power Grid Corporation, VK Singh, shared that the scholarship has been introduced as it is one of the most direct ways to give back to the community. Institute dean (alumni and corporate relations) Mahesh Panchagnula was one of the signatories of the agreement.

IIT Madras Computer Science Course Available For Public

Another unique initiative taken by IIT Madras is making its high-quality courses in Computer Science available to everyone. A portal containing the core courses has been created by the institute’s Faculty from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The portal can be accessed by Educational Institutions, students and anyone else interested.

The institute has taken this step following the vision of Professor V Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, who is keen to make high-quality education accessible to rural India. The core Computer Science courses are available on the portal- http://nsm.iitm.ac.in/cse/. The courses are on programming, Data Structures, Computer Organisation and  Algorithms.  Each course has YouTube recordings of live lectures taught to the students at IIT Madras during the pandemic.
