Jadavpur University, JU started the online classes for arts and science students for the previous semester that was suspended due to lockdown. According to the official reports, the online classes at JU started on August 24, 2020. The classes for the engineering stream would also begin soon as informed by the Vice-Chancellor. In order to impart quality education, the University will provide downloadable soft copies of class notes, audio and video clips of lectures on its official website during the online classes. In order to access the study material, students just need to log in to their respective classes. According to an official from the varsity, “Those not having net connectivity or smartphones will be able to access the materials from a friend who has a suitable device, or a cyber cafe.”

“The audio and video clips can also be shared between friends via Bluetooth which is available in almost all types of phones,” he further added. Media reports also suggest that the official informed that those students who have net connectivity would be sent the study materials on their registered email address. In case of doubts, students are free to contact the faculty concerned directly.

The officials also revealed that a similar procedure would be followed for the first semester classes which are about to begin in September. The university does not wish to delay the academic calendar anymore. JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Suranjan Das said, "We are ensuring there is no digital divide among students. There cannot be an alternative to attending classes on the campus.” The university conducted surveys to know about the number of students without any digital aid.
