Karnataka College Reopening: Govt mulling to begin offline UG classes in November
The decision to start the regular courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students is yet to be taken considering the uncertainty of the situation for a long time.
Karnataka College Re-opening: Amid the ongoing pandemic situation, the Government of Karnataka is mulling to re-open colleges for UG and PG students from next month as informed by Dy CM Dr Ashwathnarayan C.N. However, the decision on the same would be taken keeping in mind the safety of students and teachers. Currently, higher education institutes are conducting online classes for students to compensate for the academic loss. Mr Narayan stated, "The government is preparing to start the offline graduate classes from November. Shortly a decision will be taken after discussing with Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and other officials concerned." He further added that the decision to start the regular courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students is yet to be taken considering the uncertainty of the situation for a long time. He also informed that the guidelines were already issued by the Centre for re-opening schools and colleges and accordingly preparations were to begin.
"We have to ensure the safety of students and teachers. The virus is very much amidst us. Hence, we need to take the decision after much deliberation," he said. After attending the centenary convocation of the Mysore University in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated through video conferencing, the Deputy Chief Minister talked about the advantages of online classes and said that he was happy about the success of online classes. Mr Narayan said, "digital learning and teaching has been going in the state beyond expectations". He asked students to take maximum advantage of it.
The minister further said that the state government was preparing to implement the new National Education Policy, NEP in stages. "The task force constituted to recommend the implementation of NEP has already submitted its first report. The new education policy will be implemented in a phased manner by 2021 after making all the arrangements," he informed.
