Karnataka likely to consider NEET, CET score for admission to vocational courses
The marks obtained in the first year pre-university exam will be the basis to give admission to them in the second year PU exam, Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar had said.
The Karnataka government will soon be making a decision on considering the marks in the Common Entrance Test (CET) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for vocational courses, instead of the PUC second year marks, Deputy Chief Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan said.
He further said that Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar's proposal in this regard will be taken into account. While announcing on Friday that PUC students would be promoted to the next grade due to the disruption caused by COVID-19 this academic year, Mr Kumar had said the marks obtained in the first year pre-university exam will be the basis to give admission to them in the second year PU exam.
"Suresh Kumar has given good advice to do away with the criteria of minimum marks for admission to the engineering and medical courses. Instead, he has suggested that CET Rank be considered. A decision will be taken soon in consultation with relevant authorities and higher education experts," the Deputy CM said.
Mr Narayan stressed the need to amend the Karnataka Education Act to do away with the provision of minimum marks.
Amid speculations of Karnataka SSLC, 2nd PUC exams being postponed, the State Education Minister Suresh Kumar on June 4 had announced that the Karnataka 2nd PUC exams 2021 have been cancelled while the state board will be conducting the Karnataka SSLC examinations 2021 in the third week of July, if the situation is feasible.
The state board has said that it will be releasing the Karnataka SSLC exam dates 2021 at least 20 days prior to the commencement of the examinations.
