The order to extend the All India Bar Examination result validity has come after a petition filed by two law graduates complaining delay in enrolment as advocates.

BCI Extended AIBE Result Validity

The Karnataka High Court has notified that the Bar Council of India (BCI) has extended the validity of All India Bar Examination (AIBE) results. The Council has extended the validity till March 31, 2026. The decision of extension came out after a writ petition was filed by two law graduates who complained about the delay in enrolment as advocates.

Reportedly, Justice Suraj Govindaraj has heard the writ petition and said that the BCI has “taken into account the problems faced by the students who have passed the AIBE” and hence “found it appropriate to extend the validity of the AIBE results till 21.03.2026.”

The Karnataka High Court has mentioned that the BCI's decision will help those students who have passed the AIBE examination but are still waiting to complete the formalities with state bar councils, including the Karnataka State Bar Council (KSBC). Earlier, several students suffered due to the expiry of the AIBE result validity, as reported by Livelaw.

The court further mentioned, "BCI, keeping in view the difficulties faced by the students who have qualified the AIBE exam, considered it appropriate to extend the validity of the AIBE results till 21.03.2026, so as to give adequate time to the Karnataka State Bar Council to continue the applications of the concerned students.”

The petitioners urged the High Court asking it to order the KSBC to process their lawyer enrolment applications without extra requirements like document verification. The petitioners also asked for a refund of the “document verification fee,” which they claimed was not allowed under the Advocates Act.

Meanwhile, the court has observed that the challenge to the INR 2,500 document verification fee petition is already pending in the Supreme Court in WP No. 352/2023. Hence, no judgment was passed on the aforementioned subject.
