Members of various associations are protesting alleging that the law university has not implemented the 25% reservation for Karnataka students.
NLSIU has issued a statement around allegations of reservation policy violation and stated that the University fully complies with the applicable law. It will also be releasing a set of FAQs regarding NLSIU's reservation policy.
On January 21, 2023, members of a few organisations gathered outside the NLSIU campus to raise concerns regarding the implementation of the Karnataka students' reservation policy at the University.
Members of various advocate organisations protested in front of the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru alleging that the law university has not implemented the 25% reservation for Karnataka students.
The protesters demanded immediate implementation of the Karnataka student reservation policy at the NLSIU.
Earlier last week, NLSIU Bengaluru announced the provisional list of candidates for admission in its undergraduate programme through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2023.
The list mentioned out of the total 240 seats, as many as 60 (25%) have been offered to Karnataka students. However, as per the provisional list, as many as 19 students of Karnataka domicile have been selected under the general category.
Issuing a statement NLSIU has stated that on behalf of the University, NLSIU Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sudhir Krishnaswamy met the gathering and received a memorandum submitted by the organisations. The Vice-Chancellor assured the gathering that the University fully complies with the applicable law and decisions of its Governing Bodies, and will continue to do so.
The memorandum will be placed before the University's Governing Bodies for their consideration.
The University will also be releasing a set of FAQs today to further address any concerns regarding NLSIU's reservation policy.
