Maharashtra School Reopening: The government of Maharashtra has announced the reopening of schools in the state from December 1. The government states that it has decided to reopen schools after conducting a survey by the state’s school education department which revealed that more than 70 per cent parents want schools to be reopened. In order to prevent the COVID-19 spread, the authorities have decided to run schools in shifts of 3 to 4 hours and students will be called in stages.

School authorities have been directed to ensure that each classroom accommodate only 15 to 20 students at a time. The state will reopen schools for Classes 1 to 4 in rural areas and for Classes 1 to 7 in urban areas from Wednesday.

Informing the students and parents regarding the formed SoPs, state education minister Varsha Gaikwad a communique on Twitter stating "We are happy to welcome students from Std 1 onwards #BackToSchool on Dec 1. Safe resumption of schools is being considered to ensure all students have equal access to education amidst the pandemic. "

Guidelines for Maharashtra School Reopening

  • Both teaching and non-teaching staff must be vaccinated. The authorities have been directed to ensure full vaccination of the staff
  • In order to ensure social distancing, schools will be run in stages
  • No parent will be allowed to enter school premises
  • Following COVID-19 protocol such as wearing a mask, using sanitisers, and ensuring social distancing is a must for students and staff both and
  • Schools have been asked to ensure that only one student should sit on a seat and only 15 to 20 students should be there in a class at a time
  • Students found symptomatic should be taken to the school head and there should be a separate medical treatment facility in the school
  • School staff must ensure that students wash their hands from time to time and use a face mask
