DDA invites public comments regarding AIIMS redevelopment plan

After approving the AIIMS Delhi redevelopment project, DDA has now invited public comments for amending the Master Plan of Delhi, 2021, with regard to AIIMS redevelopment.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has sought suggestions from the public for the master plan for the redevelopment of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in South Delhi.
The officials have said, "Around 80 hectares has to be declared as ‘development area’ in the zonal plan for the redevelopment project," as reported by Hindustan Times.
“People have been given time till mid-May to submit their suggestions/objections regarding the proposed changes. This is an important project. The plan is to make the premier institute into a world-class medical university and develop infrastructure to meet future requirements,” said a senior DDA official.
AIIMS Delhi to be world-class medical university
Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal had confirmed earlier that the government is planning to redevelop AIIMS, New Delhi into a world-class medical college.
“The vision for redevelopment is to create a smart and sustainable campus that meets all present and future requirements of healthcare, education, and research. The campus master plan will include a new hospital for 3,000 beds, new academic and research buildings for multiple graduate and post-graduate programmes and new hostel blocks,” said a senior DDA official.
As per the AIIMS Delhi redevelopment plan, hospital beds will be increased from 2,004 to 5,000 by 2024 with an expenditure of INR 9,053 crore. There will be fifty new operation theatres and a dedicated infectious diseases ward within the next seven years. The master plan also includes the creation of a clinical trial facility, a 1.5 lakh sqm area for state-of-the-art research laboratories, over 4,000 hostel units to replace the ageing buildings, animal facilities, and a smart library.
