The first WHO Traditional Medicine Global Summit will be co-hosted by WHO and Govt. Of India from August 17 to August 18, 2023, at Gandhinagar, Gujarat, stated Ministry of Ayush. The summit will witness a discussion to mobilize political commitment and evidence-based action on traditional medicine.

Ministry of Ayush has said that the first WHO Traditional Medicine Global Summit will be co-hosted by the WHO and the government Of India from August 17 to August 18, 2023, at Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Alongside, G20 Health Ministerial Meeting, the summit will serve as a forum for all stakeholders to exchange best practices and ground-breaking information about how traditional medicine contributes to sustainable development and health, including practitioners, users, communities, national policymakers, international organizations, academics, the private sector, and civil society organizations.

The foundation stone for the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (GCTM) in Jamnagar, Gujarat, was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 19, 2022. He said on the occasion, “The WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine is recognition of India's contribution and potential in this field. India’s traditional medicine system is not limited only to treatment. It is a holistic science of life. India takes this partnership as a huge responsibility for serving the entire humanity.” 

 "I am happy that by giving the slogan ‘One planet our health’ WHO has promoted the Indian vision of ‘One Earth, One Health’. It is a matter of immense pride for India that 2023 has been chosen as the International Year of Millets by the United Nation," he added.
