FMGE Latest News Today

Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) in Andhra Pradesh are in dillema as the wait for Permanent Registrations (PRs) for pandemic-affected candidates continues even after the interim Medical council in the state has been formed. Reportedly, one of the reason for delay in issuance of PRs was certainly because of lack of the coucil body in the state.

When the new interim council members took charge on April 1 this year, a new ray of hope rise for many FMGs who were seeking to get permanent/ temporary registration. However, the meeting has been postponed twice this month already, as reported by The Hindu.

Now, as the NEET PG registration last date is approaching, FMGs are anxious that they probably will loose the chance to apply for the entrance examination conducted for admission to PG medical courses across the country.

As per the NEET PG admission criteria, students willing to get admission to PG medical courses shall mandatorily have temporary or permanent registration while filling the application form. While PG is yet to be issued to students, the TR has already lapsed for many of the FMGs. Reportedly, if the PRs are not issued before May 7, many FMGs will be ineligible to appear for the NEET PG examination in the academic session 2025.

Those who completed their one-year internships in May of last year, as specified in their allocation letters, are the most affected.  They were also unable to attend NEET last year due to a delay in receiving their permanent registrations (PRs). They were informed that in order to earn a PR, they would need to complete another year of internship under the National Medical Commission's (NMC) criteria.
