HP Govt Approves 3 New Medical Colleges in State Under CSS Scheme

The newly approved medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh are located in Chamba, Hamirpur and Nahan and have become operational to strengthen the state's healthcare education infrastructure.
The Himachal Pradesh government has sanctioned the establishment of three new medical institutions through the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) in the state of Himachal Pradesh, according to Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel. The CSS aims to create new medical colleges linked to currently operating district or referral hospitals in underprivileged and aspirational areas where neither government nor private medical institutions exist as of now.
The newly recognized colleges, located in Chamba, Hamirpur, and Nahan, have already begun operations, signifying an important achievement toward strengthening the state's medical education infrastructure, as reported by Medical Dialogues.
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare handles a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) for the Establishment of new medical schools connected with existing district/referral hospitals, with a preference for disadvantaged and aspirational districts that do not have a government or private medical college. The investment distribution configuration between the Centre and State Governments is a 90:10 ratio for North Eastern and Specialized Category States, and 60:40 for the others.
In addition, under CSS for upgrading existing State Government/Central Government Medical Colleges UG and PG seats, the Government has also provided financial support to the State of Himachal Pradesh to increase 120 MBBS seats in 06 Medical Colleges with a cost of INR 144 crore. Further, INR 14.50 crore has been granted to increase 17 PG seats in one medical college.
