Jharkhand State to Introduce DNB Courses in Government Medical Colleges

Jharkhand State will soon have three-year postgraduate medical DNB courses for candidates having an MBBS degree. Reportedly, a meeting will be held at MGM Medical college, following which the proposal will be sent to NBEMS for the needful.
Jharkhand state is planning to begin Diplomate of National Board (DNB)courses in government medical colleges of the state. The authorities will soon send an official letter to the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) in order to get their confirmation for the proposed courses. Apart from this, a meeting will be conducted at MGM Medical College for the requirements, as reported by Medical Dialogues.
MBBS graduates are entitled to pursue DNB courses offered by the NBEMS. These three-year postgraduate medical programs are considered to be similar to the postgraduate courses Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Surgery (MS).
Reportedly, the preparations are underway to conduct DNB courses in those departments at Jharkhand's five medical institutions that do not offer postgraduate programs. Out of the five medical institutions, Hazaribagh, Dumka, and Palamu do not provide PG courses.
One of the colleges, i.e. Dhanbad Medical College, offers PG courses in only two subjects. PG studies are not currently offered in five departments at MGM Medical College in Jamshedpur, including Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine, PSM, Psychiatry, and the Blood Bank. Diploma courses, on the other hand, are currently being offered in several departments.
In order to offer DNB courses, all medical colleges will have to apply to the National Board of Examinations. Further, a committee will be set up to ensure that the requirements to offer DNB courses are available at the said medical colleges. Only once the NOC is issued only then the DNB courses be offered in the colleges. Necessary training will be provided to the Principal Superintendent of all medical colleges, as well as the Chairman and Coordinators of the relevant departments, to ensure no rejections will be received by any medical college.
