JIPMER Amends PhD Revised Guidelines; Know Amendment in Exemption, Eligibility Criteria

The amendment in the PhD revised guidelines (2020) have been conducted following several request received from JIPMER faculties concerning the exempting and eligibility for admission. 

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has released a notification concerning the amendment to the PhD rvised guidelines 2020. The amendments have been made with an immediate effect under the exemption and eligibility criteria after receiving requests from faculties of JIPMER for the necessary steps. 

Amendment 1: In-service candidates are exempt from appearing in the entrance examination

 1 To encourage faculty participation in research, in-service applicants applying to part-time PhD programs are excluded from appearing in the admission exam. Besides,  Non-faculty staff members must pass the entrance exam for their speciality in order to be hired.

Amendment 2: PhD Eligibility Requirements 

1. A PhD or postgraduate degree holder must possess a minimum of three years of postdoctoral research or teaching experience while serving as an associate professor at the institution, according to the PhD revision standards 2020.

2. In compliance with UGC regulations, research scholars may be overseen by faculty members who have no less than five years of postdoctoral research and teaching expertise as an assistant professor while holding a PhD degree.  To meet this aim, extra PhD admissions to JIPMER will be made feasible by expanding the pool of qualified guides.

3. According to the PhD criteria 2020, those interested candidates must have a minimum of five original research publications, with no fewer than three of those articles coming within the previous three years.  However, according to UGC admission criteria, assistant professors with a PhD shall have a minimum of three research publications in peer-reviewed or refereed journals.
